2024 PDC PREMIER REVITALIZATION CONFERENCE CALL FOR PROPOSALS OPEN!

The Pennsylvania Downtown Center and WalkWorks are seeking session proposals for the 2024 Statewide Active Transportation Summit: Crossing the Road, which will be held in York, PA on June 26, 2024.

The Summit is expected to draw community leaders, active transportation advocates, state agency representatives, non-profit leaders, municipal leaders, planning and design professionals, transportation engineers, public health professionals, and educators in addition to representation from the economic development field especially in Main Street and Elm Street organizations across the state. People will be from small towns, midsized cities, and urban centers.

ABOUT THIS YEAR’S THEME

Crossing the Road acknowledges the challenges of safe passage for people walking, biking, and using wheelchairs and also the metaphorical imperative to move the conversation, policy, and state of the art forward when it comes to active transportation and community planning, design, and construction. The summit seeks to provide best practices and real-life implementation examples of what people can do in their own communities to make active transportation safer, more inviting, and more accessible, whether we are advocating for connected walking and biking networks, linking everyday destinations throughout our communities, planning for them or designing and delivering them. We strive to inspire, inform, and ignite leaders to be bold and to implement change. Our hope is that attendees apply what they learn from one another and bring back a gameplan to transform their communities. The ultimate goal is to improve public health by both reducing crash risk and the prevalence of chronic health conditions related to inactivity.

We are looking for 45 minute Tactical Tool Kit sessions and traditional 75 minute classroom sessions. In addition to proposals that speak to the 2024 theme, we welcome submissions that touch on a variety of other topics. The following ideas are all eminently relevant:
• Accessibility

• Adaptive Cycling

• Advocacy

• Art and Transportation

• Building a Culture of Active Transportation

• Children’s Education

• Complete Streets

• Driver Education

• Education Connections

• Equitable Transportation

• Innovative Funding

• Mode Shift

• Partnerships

• Planning Organization Strategies

• Policy Improvements

• Public Engagement

• Public Health Connections

• Responding to Bikelash

• Smart Growth

• State Agency Perspectives

• Study Tours

• Systemic Safety

• Trails as Transportation

• Transit Linkages

Proposals must be submitted by midnight on February 22, 2024 via the Submittable link.
