Advocacy 101 – Advocacy Matters More than Ever: What 501(c)(3)s CAN Do

Join us and our partner, Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations (PANO), for a 90-minute facilitated discussion designed to help prepare you for PDC’s April 21st Main Street Advocacy Day and debunk myths about advocacy.

Most nonprofits have been created to address inequities in policies and the programs resulting from those policies. Thus, legislative advocacy is a critical aspect of creating thriving communities for those we serve - a premise that today’s political environment underscores as never before. Join PANO’s Executive Director, Anne Gingerich, to engage in on-the-spot learning and application of the steps required to best engage local, state, and federal officials in cause-related lobbying.

Topics will include, but are not limited to:

•                     Advocacy best practices for local nonprofits

•                     Understanding lobbying vs. advocacy

•                     Reaching out to your legislators – how to make it less scary

•                     How to make sure you know your legislators and they know you (and your organization)

•                     Hosting a legislative visit

•                     Making the ask

•                     Building advocacy coalitions, including those served.

This workshop will conclude with how to track your lobbying costs and what 501 (c)(3)s must avoid. As it turns out, we can do quite a bit. Check out In Support of Democracy: What Nonprofits Can Do for a sneak peek.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

Free for members and $50 for non-members. Membership questions, please contact emmahudson@padowntown.org.
